We all think of the 3 days of the Show but not many realise that the Committee spend the preceeding Saturday clearing out the red brick barn to make a presentable presentation area to host our visitors. We start the Show with the Pre-Show Service and this year our speaker was The Right Reverend Sarah Mullally, Bishop of Crediton, with St. Martins C ofE School, Cranbrook. The Service being led by the Show’s Honorary Chaplain, Canon Ann Norman-Walker.
On the Thursday we started the day with a short morning Service led by Frances Canning with the speaker being Bishop Mark O’Toole Roman Catholic Bishop of Plymouth. The Salvation Army Band did us proud throughout the day, a very popular part of The Devon Churches stand. The childrens marqee was starting get lively with the many and varied actiites within, and the bouncy castle.
On Friday Rev. Steve Cousley, St. Thomas Baptist, was our speaker at the morning service. The exhibition area included The Salvation Army, API Communications, Brunel Manor in the marquee and Choicewords Bookshop in the Barn with the Cafe.
Saturday started with our short morning service led by Rev. Phil Wagstaff, and the speaker being Rev. Barry Dugmore, followed by the YMCA Worship Band led by Andy Hood. The Churches Stand welcomed the Show President and Show Officials at the beginning of the morning. The Children’s Activities tent was once again a flurry of activity almost for the full 8 hours - well done to the Children’s Work Team. The exhibition area and the mini Bell tower bells proved very popular, as was the wonderful ‘Puppets Team’ who had to contend with some damp weather.
It was a privilege to offer a warm welcome to hundreds of visitors many of whom tell us ‘Oh ! We come every year !’ and we are so pleased that they do. The Committee once again will review the 3 days and try to make the 2017 Show Devon Churches Stand a ‘must’ place to visit.
